The Plaza has served afternoon tea in the Palm Court under its stained-glass ceiling since 1907: the New York ritual, with a pastry kitchen that also runs the Plaza Food Hall downstairs.
The French Renaissance château on the corner of Central Park opened in 1907 and has been New York’s hotel of record ever since: the Beatles, the Great Gatsby film, Eloise. The Palm Court, restored with its stained-glass laylight, serves afternoon tea every day with a tea sommelier, a tier of sandwiches, scones and pastries, and a children’s tea for the Eloise pilgrims. The Plaza Food Hall below stairs sells the hotel’s cakes and pastries by the piece, and the Champagne Bar in the lobby serves the tea pastries with a glass in the evening.
