The Peninsula New York on Fifth Avenue serves the Hong Kong lobby tea in the Gotham Lounge, a mezzanine over the Beaux-Arts staircase, with a pastry tier that changes with the seasons and the collaborations of the group.
The 1905 Beaux-Arts hotel on Fifth Avenue became the Peninsula in 1988 and kept its grand staircase and its mezzanine, where the Gotham Lounge serves afternoon tea in the group’s tradition: a themed tier several times a year, a classic tier always, and the Peninsula’s own teas. The pastry follows the Hong Kong model of the group with New York additions, and the Peninsula Boutique in the lobby sells the cakes and the chocolate for the street.
The Gotham Lounge is the pastry choice among the Fifth Avenue teas: a smaller room, a stronger tier, easier to book than the Plaza.
