Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo

The Gourmet Shop

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo occupies the top floors of a Nihonbashi tower, serves afternoon tea in the Oriental Lounge on the 38th floor and sells its cakes and breads at the Gourmet Shop on the ground floor.

The hotel opened in 2005 in the Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower and made two habits of its pastry kitchen famous: the Oriental Lounge on the 38th floor, where afternoon tea is served with the city below and a seasonal theme that changes every few months, and the Gourmet Shop at street level, a cake, bread and chocolate counter that is one of the most respected in a city full of them. The hotel’s pastry team has won international competitions, and its seasonal fruit tarts and chocolates are the pieces to buy.

The Gourmet Shop sits beside the Mitsukoshi depachika, which makes Nihonbashi a full afternoon of counters in itself.
