The oldest grand hotel, renewed
The Savoy on the Paradeplatz, Zurich’s first grand hotel from 1838, reopened in 2024 as a Mandarin Oriental with the group’s afternoon tea and cake-shop tradition across the square from Sprüngli.
The Savoy Baur en Ville stood on the Paradeplatz since 1838 and closed for a full rebuild before reopening in 2024 under Mandarin Oriental. The new house kept the address and the scale and added the group’s sweet habits: afternoon tea in the lounge, a cake counter, seasonal collections and the Hong Kong-born idea that a hotel’s cakes belong to the city. Across the square stands Sprüngli, which makes the Paradeplatz the most concentrated sweet square in Switzerland.
The hotel is the modern choice in Zurich: a pastry brigade with international references on the most traditional square in the city.
