The Dolder Grand, a castle-like resort above Zurich with a museum-grade art collection, runs a pastry kitchen whose afternoon tea and desserts match the Warhols on the walls.
The Dolder Grand opened in 1899 as a spa hotel on the wooded hill above the city and was rebuilt by Norman Foster in 2008 around the old turreted core. It is Zurich’s resort: a spa, a golf course, a view of the lake and the Alps, and an art collection that includes Warhol, Miró and Damien Hirst. The pastry kitchen serves an afternoon tea in the lobby lounge with the city below and closes the menus of The Restaurant, one of the most decorated in Switzerland, with plated desserts of real ambition.
The Dolder is the place for a long afternoon: the tram up the hill, the tea, a walk in the woods, the lights of the city at dusk.
