The patisserie on Mount Street
The Connaught in Mayfair opened its own patisserie counter on Mount Street, the first palace in London to sell cakes to the pavement, and serves tea at Jean-Georges with a view of Carlos Place.
The Connaught is the quiet one of the Maybourne houses: a mahogany staircase, Hélène Darroze’s three-star restaurant, the Connaught Bar with its Martini trolley. In 2019 it opened The Connaught Patisserie, a small pastel-coloured counter on Mount Street where the hotel’s cakes, tarts and macarons are sold by the piece in a box tied with ribbon. Afternoon tea is served at Jean-Georges at The Connaught, the glass conservatory restaurant on the corner, with a lighter, more modern tier than the Ritz or Claridge’s.
The patisserie counter is the point of the house for sweet travellers: a palace kitchen, a pavement price and a walk through Mount Street afterwards.
