The Métropole beside the casino gardens serves the reference afternoon tea of the Riviera in its lobby salon designed by Jacques Garcia, with a pastry kitchen that treats the citrus of the coast as its signature.
The Métropole opened in 1886 and was reinvented in 2004 by Jacques Garcia as a Riviera palace of velvet, dark wood and mirrors. Its lobby salon serves afternoon tea through the year, the most complete in the principality: a tiered stand of savouries and pastries, a tea list, champagne, and in winter a fire. The pastry kitchen works with the citrus of Menton and the honey of the Alpes-Maritimes, and its lemon and orange desserts are the ones to order.
The hotel also houses the Chocolaterie de Monaco boutique in its shopping gallery, so a box of the Prince’s chocolate is a lift ride from the tea table.
