Four Seasons Hotel George V
Flowers and vanilla
The George V is famous for its flowers, its three-star restaurant and, since 2019, the pastry of Michael Bartocetti, whose tea in La Galerie is among the most refined in Paris.
The art deco palace off the Champs-Élysées is known for two things before you taste anything: the floral installations of Jeff Leatham that fill the lobby, and the restaurant Le Cinq. The pastry kitchen has been led since 2019 by Michael Bartocetti, who came from the Shangri-La and built a repertoire around vanilla, honey and seasonal fruit with very little sugar. His afternoon tea in La Galerie, under the courtyard windows, is the quiet one of the golden triangle: fewer pieces, more precision.
Desserts in the hotel’s restaurants, Le Cinq, L’Orangerie and Le George, come from the same kitchen and change with the market; the vanilla desserts and the honey from the hotel’s own hives are the constants. There is no street counter; the pastry stays in the house, which is part of its appeal.
