Castillo Hotel Son Vida
The castle above Palma
The Castillo Son Vida, a thirteenth-century castle turned grand hotel in 1961, serves the calmest afternoon salon on the island, with the bay of Palma below its terraces.
The castle on the hill of Son Vida opened as a hotel in 1961 with a guest list of kings and film stars, and it still has the air of a grand old resort: a lobby of tapestries and antiques, terraces over the golf course and the bay, a pool among pines. The afternoon service in the lobby bar and on the terrace pairs the island’s pastry with a classical hotel repertoire, and the kitchen’s almond and orange desserts are the ones to order at dinner in Es Vi.
It is the hotel for a slow afternoon: a coffee, an ensaimada, the bay turning gold, and a taxi into Palma for dinner.
