The Palace Lounge looks onto the moat and gardens of the Imperial Palace and serves a seasonal afternoon tea, strawberry in winter, chestnut in autumn, from the kitchen that also runs Sweets & Deli downstairs.
The lounge is a long room on the ground floor with windows onto the water and the swans; the tea is themed by season and often by a partnership, with a tier of small precise pastries, scones and sandwiches and a tea list with Japanese teas beside the Darjeelings.
The seasonal teas book out weeks ahead; Sweets & Deli in the basement sells the same pastry kitchen without a wait.
