Astor Court, The St. Regis New York
Under a painted sky
Astor Court at the St. Regis serves afternoon tea under a trompe-l’œil sky with a harpist, in the Gilded Age hotel with the King Cole Bar next door: the calm tea of Midtown.
The room is Beaux-Arts marble and gilt under a painted ceiling of clouds; a harpist plays. The tea is classic: sandwiches, scones, French pastries, the St. Regis teas, champagne by the glass. Tax and gratuity are added.
Fewer photographs, more conversation, and a Bloody Mary in the King Cole Bar afterwards.
