Tiny chocolates in hat boxes
Altmann & Kühne on the Graben has made miniature chocolates since 1928, sold in boxes shaped like hat boxes, chests of drawers and treasure chests designed by the Wiener Werkstätte: the most charming chocolate shop in Europe.
The shop was designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1932, and the boxes still follow the Wiener Werkstätte drawings: a miniature chest of drawers, a hat box, a tiny trunk, each filled with tiny chocolates, pralines, marzipan and liqueur bonbons the size of a fingernail. The recipes have not changed since the founders; the boxes are collected.
It is the Vienna gift that makes people gasp when they open it.
