The garden palace
Le Bristol on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré has a garden, a three-star restaurant and a pastry kitchen whose tea in the Café Antonia is the most French of the Paris palaces.
Le Bristol was the first Paris hotel to receive the Palace distinction, and it wears it lightly: a garden courtyard, a cat called Fa-Raon, a rooftop pool shaped like a ship and Eric Frechon’s three-star Epicure. The pastry kitchen serves tea in the Café Antonia, a pink and gold salon named after the last empress of Austria, and the desserts of Epicure close one of the great menus of the city.
The style is classical French with a light hand: tarts with a thin, crisp base, a mille-feuille assembled to order, the seasonal fruit of the Faubourg market. The hotel also runs a delicatessen, the Épicerie du Bristol, where jams, cakes and the house chocolates can be bought without a table.
