Matcha in the 6th
Sadaharu Aoki’s first boutique on the rue de Vaugirard is a graphic, muted room where French pastry turns green: the Bamboo, the matcha éclair, the yuzu tart and the black sesame macaron.
The shop opened in 2001 and looks like a design store: grey walls, a long counter, cakes in perfect rectangles. The Bamboo, a matcha opera, is the emblem; the matcha éclair, the yuzu tart, the black sesame macaron and the seasonal pieces follow, and a small counter sells the tea. Boutiques followed in the 7th, at the Galeries Lafayette and in Tokyo.
It is the Paris boutique for people who find sugar boring and tea interesting.
