The bakery counter of Lafayette on the corner of Great Jones Street sells the Suprême, the cream-filled croissant ring that went viral in 2022, beside croissants, tarts and cakes from one of the best French bakeries in Manhattan.
Lafayette is a grand French café with a bakery at its corner entrance: croissants, pains au chocolat, brioches, fruit tarts and the Suprême in the flavour of the day, pistachio, chocolate, strawberry, made in limited numbers and gone by mid-morning. The café behind serves a full brasserie menu and its own dessert trolley.
The queue on the corner is a NoHo fixture; the croissant without the ring is the connoisseur’s order.
