The Clipper Lounge on the mezzanine of the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong has served afternoon tea since 1963 with scones and the hotel’s rose petal jam: the calm tea of Central.
The lounge is the mezzanine over the lobby, dark wood and brass, with the Cake Shop on the same floor. The tea: sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and rose petal jam, a pastry tier with the Mandarin cheesecake, and a tea list with the hotel’s own rose tea.
It is the quiet alternative to the Peninsula queue and the jam is sold next door.
