Kurkonditorei Oberlaa
The Viennese cake, lightened
Oberlaa is the modern Viennese Konditorei: born in the spa gardens of Oberlaa in 1974 and now across the city, with a lighter hand on the torte, the Oberlaa-Kurbadtorte, seasonal cakes and the best-value Kaffee und Kuchen in the centre.
The house started in the Kurpark Oberlaa and grew into a chain of Konditoreien with a reputation for cakes that are lighter than the imperial tradition: the Kurbadtorte with hazelnut and chocolate, the Cardinalschnitte, seasonal fruit cakes, the Christmas Lebkuchen, and a tea room in each shop. The Neuer Markt branch near the Kärntner Strasse is the central one.
It is where the Viennese themselves take their cake when the tourists take the Sacher.
