Tea under the gazebo
The Thames Foyer serves the Savoy tea under a glass dome with a pianist inside a white gazebo, in the hotel where Escoffier invented the peach Melba: the theatre-district tea.
The foyer is the hotel’s central salon, art deco and light, with a wrought-iron gazebo in the middle and a piano inside it. The tea is classic British with a Savoy polish: sandwiches, warm scones, a tier of cakes that changes with the season, and a peach Melba in July. The tea list includes the Savoy’s own blends.
It is easier to book than the Ritz and Claridge’s and sits an hour from curtain-up in the West End.
